FITTING OF HEARING AIDS

Not being able to hear can be debilitating and affect every aspect of your lifestyle, including your relationships and day-to-day activities. Irreversible hearing loss can be corrected by means of a battery-operated device, which audiologists refer to as a hearing aid. There are various hearing aids on the market today, and we specialise in fitting a range of devices to suit your needs.

Our clinic offers hearing aids from the three prominent hearing aid brands in South Africa (Signia, Oticon and Widex).

FITTING HEARING AIDS

Your audiologist will demonstrate how to work your hearing aids. Deciding on an appropriate fit prevents discomfort and should not echo or buzz suddenly.

When adjusting to your hearing aids, it's important to remember that your hearing will not be perfect but greatly improved. We will also teach you about sounds and how to distinguish between them. With a hearing aid, your hearing becomes more fine-tuned as you adapt to new, controlled sounds.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1How do we fit hearing aids?
Once you decide on a hearing aid and our audiologist approves, she fits it onto your ear. We will demonstrate how to use and care for the device to prolong its life span. At a follow-up visit, we perform a general check-up and ask questions to see how you adjust to the device.
2When do you receive your hearing aids?
Most people get their hearing aids on the same day of the fitting. You begin wearing your hearing aids as soon as you leave our rooms, and you will notice an immediate improvement in your hearing.
3How long does fitting hearing aids take?
Usually, a fitting lasts anything from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your needs and the hearing aids you’ve chosen.
